Gutter Repair in Tallahassee, FL

  • Typical repair: most gutter fixes cost $100 to $450, and HomeGuide's national average is $275
  • Common jobs: a sagging gutter runs $75 to $300, a leak $100 to $225, and re-pitching a run $75 to $200 (HomeGuide)
  • Seamless or sectional: repairs on seamless gutters average $150 to $750 against $100 to $450 for sectional, because a damaged seamless run is replaced whole (HomeGuide)
  • Time: 1 to 2 hours for a minor repair, 2 to 4 hours for a partial replacement (HomeGuide)

Tallahassee Expert Roofing connects you with a gutter repair tech from a Tallahassee roofing outfit for fixes to existing runs: re-hanging a sagging section, resealing a corner, or re-pitching a gutter that holds water. A photo of the problem spot, taken in the rain if you can, helps the roofer bring the right parts.

Gutter Repair Types in Tallahassee

Each of these is a fix to a gutter that's already on the house. For a new system, sizes and materials, see the gutter installation page linked at the end of this section.

Sagging Gutters and Failed Hangers

A gutter that dips between supports has fasteners that have worked loose from the fascia. Water then pools in the low spot instead of running to the downspout. HomeGuide puts a basic fix, new spikes or tightened screws, at $75 to $300. Replacement hangers cost $2 to $3 each plus $50 to $150 an hour in labor. The Florida Residential Code (2023, 8th edition, R903.4.2) requires gutters to be fastened securely with corrosion-resistant fasteners of a material similar to or compatible with the gutter, so ask for hangers that match the gutter metal. If the screws won't bite because the wood behind them is soft, the problem is the fascia, not the hanger.

Seam and End-Cap Leaks

Sectional gutters can leak at every joint. Seamless gutters have no joints along a run, so their leaks show up at the corners, end caps and downspout outlets. HomeGuide's prices:

  • Small holes filled with roofing cement. $100 to $225 on most one-story homes
  • Sealant along seams. $1.50 to $6.50 per linear foot
  • Larger holes patched with metal flashing. $1 to $2 per linear foot

The same code section calls for gutter joints that are lapped, soldered or caulked.

Loose or Clogged Downspouts

HomeGuide prices a replacement at $30 to $75 per downspout, or $2 to $4 a foot. It notes most homes have four or five, each 10 to 15 feet long, and that on some lots the downspout needs to run more than 5 feet from the foundation. A clogged downspout that only needs flushing is a cleaning job, not a repair.

Wrong Pitch and Overflow

Gutters have to slope toward the outlet. A re-pitch means unscrewing the brackets, changing the angle and fastening them again, at $75 to $200 (HomeGuide). If a gutter overflows even when it's clean and pitched correctly, it may be too small for the roof above it: HomeGuide's installation guide says undersized gutters overflow in heavy rain. That calls for a bigger gutter, not a repair.

Rotted Fascia Behind the Gutter

Years of overflow rot the fascia board the gutter hangs from. HomeGuide says repair prices rise once the fascia or soffits behind the gutter have rotted, and its installation guide says damaged fascia has to be fixed before gutters go back up. A missing or short drip edge can send water behind the gutter too; roof flashing repair covers the drip edge rule.

Gutter Repair or Replacement?

HomeGuide's installation guide says that when you see several problems at once, or the gutters are more than 20 years old, replacing them is often cheaper than patching. Its repair guide lists these signs of a gutter near the end:

  • Pulling away

The run sags away from the roof along much of its length, not at one hanger.
  • Holes and rust

Many cracks, holes or rust spots.
  • Joints that keep failing

Sections that separate again after they've been resealed.
  • Damage below

Frequent overflow that rots the fascia, washes out beds or leaves water pooling at the foundation.

The guides disagree a little on lifespan. The repair guide gives steel and aluminum 20 to 30 years and copper more than 50. The installation guide gives aluminum 20 to 25, steel 20 to 30 and vinyl 10 to 15. Gutters that only look tired can be painted for $1 to $4 a foot.

Height changes the bill. HomeGuide puts common repairs at $100 to $300 on a one-story house, $135 to $450 on two stories and $165 to $750 on three. Most gutter repair contractors also charge a call-out minimum of $75 to $200, which usually covers the first hour. Built-in box gutters, found on some older historic houses, are a separate kind of job: lining one runs $1,000 to $2,200 and a rebuild $6,000 to $27,000.

When you compare repair quotes, check that each one says which runs are being re-hung or resealed, whether the hangers match the gutter metal, and whether a soft fascia board was found and priced. If the roofer finds rot, soffit and fascia repair lays out what replacing the board involves.
